Trabec Helmet
2008
When extending their range of protective gear for Mountain biking to include helmets for all mountain and XC purpose, POC considered our earlier work and came to us for advice. The challenge was to design a helmet aimed at All Mountain / Enduro MTB but to keep the design identity from POC’s iconic freeride and downhill helmets. We gave life to a range of design concepts exploring different angles on how to include large vents still keeping a clean overall design language.
The Trabec Race in-mold helmet was developed in collaboration with POC to provide the highest possible degree of protection without compromising functionality or performance. The human skeleton, and its ability to resist and endure stress inspired the helmet’s construction. The Aramid filament reinforced EPS core is tough and the outer PC shell is optimized with no seams at the most exposed areas. An aerodynamic channel system and 16 vent holes provide good ventilation. Compared to a traditional helmet, which sits on top rather than around your head, Trabec fits more like a skateboard helmet.
POC focuses on high adrenalin, gravity sports such as skiing and downhill biking. With the mission to save lives and reduce injuries, the Swedish company has successfully developed innovative body protection.
